🌼 What Is a Bulb Lasagne?

If you’re short on space or want months of continuous blooms, try planting a bulb lasagne — a layered arrangement of bulbs in a single pot. This clever method allows you to plant multiple varieties together, each set to bloom at different times, creating a long-lasting and beautiful display from late winter through spring.

🪴 How to Plant a Bulb Lasagne: Step-by-Step Guide

You’ll need:

A deep container (at least 30cm)

Peat-free compost

A mix of bulbs that bloom at different times
(e.g. tulips, daffodils, crocus, hyacinths, muscari)

1. Add Drainage

Start with a layer of gravel or broken pots at the bottom to prevent waterlogging.

2. First Layer – Late Bloomers (e.g. Tulips)

Add a layer of compost, then plant your tulips about 20cm deep. Space them out evenly, with the pointed end facing up.

3. Second Layer – Mid Bloomers (e.g. Daffodils or Hyacinths)

Add more compost, then arrange your daffodils or hyacinths above the tulips.

4. Third Layer – Early Bloomers (e.g. Crocus or Muscari)

Cover with another layer of compost and plant crocuses or muscari on the top layer.

5. Finish and Water

Top up with compost, firm gently, water lightly, and label your pot. Place in a sheltered outdoor spot for winter.
